Samoa is a fantastic ecotorism destination with not only breathtaking natural envirnments but a living traditional culture that is proud of its existance and extremely hospitable to tourism.
There are estimated to be 550 named plants species in the Samoan language. If the plant doesn’t have a Samoan name, chances are that this plant had no use. Today, our weavers use over 30 species and varieties of plants, our wood carvers use over 40 species of trees, our tapacloth makers use 13 different members of our biodiversity (not just the paper mulberry tree).
If you like kayaking, mangroves and birdlife, then head to Sa'anapu Wetlands Retreat on Upolu Island. If you are interested in woodcarving, rainforests and traditional villages, head to Sina's Beach Fales in the remote north-eastern rainforests of Upolu island. If you are interested in traditinal healing and medicine, try Vaotu'ua Beach Fales on traditional Manono Island. If you are interested in learning the art of Tapa Cloth making, head to Satuiatua Beach Fales on Savaii.
