Now for the exciting stuff - samoa beach fales a bit more unique, a bit more authentic and a bit more off the beaten track ... yet accredited by Green Turtle.
Uninhabited Namua Island, 10 minutes by boat off the east coast of Upolu is unique. Set on a nice swimming beach with good snorkelling, there are just 10 traditional beach fales with views looking back towards the Upolu mountains.
One of the nicest over-water fales can be found at Vaotu'ua on traditional Manono Island. There's a small beach, a gorgeous swimming lagoon and plenty of solitude - come here for rest and relaxation (there are no cars or dogs), and for a little curiosity about traditional Samoan life.
If you're looking to stay in a traditional Samoan village Faofao Beach on the south coast of Upolu is your best options. Faofao is set on the main Upolu coastal road and offers a lovely beach with traditional dancing on Saturday nights.
For one of the most peaceful and intimate settings, try Mativa Treehouse on the south coast of Upolu.
Satui'atua Beach on the south coast of Savai'i is set on a lovely and quiet beach with great snorkelling and the nearby village is a great place to see artists making traditional tapa cloth designs. Satui'atua is also a popular spot for surfing.
